Hello, my name is Melissa and I haven’t written a blog post in years. So forgive me as I get back into the swing of things. I started blogging in 2008, when I moved to London, England. That blog is still up but was abandoned in 2016 when I returned to Canada. If you’re new to me and curious you can have a look here. If you’ve read my old blog and you’re finding me nearly 8 years later then hello again.

Over the years I had the best of intentions to pick up where I left off. I wanted to blog about Canada, reverse culture shock and what starting life over was like. I never did it because at the time life was entirely too messy. Healing isn’t linear and can take a very long time. Then when things were good again I felt that I was too out of practice.

However, there was always a part of me that missed this. Not only sharing/documenting the fun things in my life but also connecting with others in this space. When I started blogging I could have never imagined that I would connect with so many amazing people. I met an entire friend group through my blog and most of them I still connect with. So I am jumping in head first. I am still tinkering with the theme and how I want things to look over here but if I keep stressing over that I’ll never get started. That perfectionist in me is still there but older and somewhat wiser I am giving myself grace to just get started and fix what is needed along the way.

I’m also allowing this blog to be or develop into whatever it will be. The best description would be general lifestyle and reviews. I’d like to share hidden and not so hidden gems, my travels (past places I never blogged about and future) and anything else in between that makes sense. I may also fill in some of the blanks from 2016 until now, we’ll see. Welcome to my corner of the internet. In future I hope you grab a tea or a coffee and, sit back and join me while I share my thoughts.

Glad you decided to come back. I did something similar, having begun blogging in 2012, was gangbusters for five years, then just stopped for four years.
Here I am, like you, blogging and writing again. I did, however, keep up my old blog, so I didn’t have to start over, but it did feel odd starting again. I retooled and refreshed the site, which I’d been wanting to do before I’d stopped. The only subscribers I kept were family. But, they do come back. There’s life on the other side.

Thanks Chris, it feels great to be back. I see that you completely relate and I think for a lot of us we likely have a point in time where we take an extended break. I will be diving into your blog, I’ve already had a look and looks like it is right up my alley. I intend to get back to reading blogs regularly like I used to as well. I did think about sticking with my last blog and updating it but I might turn it into a book so didn’t want to continue. Life on the other side looks nice so far 🙂

That’s exciting, converting blogs to a book is something I often think about. But aside from the blogging, I’ve written a couple of fiction manuscripts, one I’m very happy with, so I’m having it professionally edited. Maybe I’ll get picked up, maybe self publish, IDK.
Still cranking out the blogs though. Just finished a series of blogs about cardinal virtues, a synthesis of poetry and prose, attempting to put them in a modern relatable context. Way out of character for me, but I stretched my boundaries a bit. Always a good thing.
The rest are all over the place. Travel, advice, history, flash fiction, you name it. Just trying to have fun with my writing and develop a solid readable prose.
Good luck with your blog and your potential book. I’ll be keeping up.
